A half-day wood carving course with The Laudato Si Centre in Salford. The Laudato Si Centre say it suits beginners and people with some experience. No previous experience is needed, they say.

What is wood carving?

Carving means cutting a shape into a block by hand, with gouges and a mallet. It is slower than turning and there is no machine doing any of the work. Beginners usually start with a relief carving, where the design is cut into a flat panel rather than in the round, because it teaches tool control without needing you to think about a shape from every angle at once.

Dates, prices and places are set by The Laudato Si Centre, not by us, and can change at any time. Always confirm the details with them before you travel.

Questions people ask before booking

Do I need to bring my own tools?

The Laudato Si Centre does not state on their page whether tools are provided for this course. Ask them before you book, because a hand carving course can assume you bring your own.

Is it suitable for a complete beginner?

Yes. The Laudato Si Centre bills this course as suiting people starting from scratch as well as those with some experience who want to develop further, so a mixed-ability group is expected.

Who do I book with?

You book directly with The Laudato Si Centre. Woodwork UK does not take bookings, does not add a fee, and is not paid for the link. They set the dates, the price and the number of places.
