What is green woodworking?

Green woodworking works with freshly felled, unseasoned timber, which cuts far more easily than the dried stuff. It is hand tools, often outdoors, using a shave horse and a drawknife. Chairs, stools, spoons and rakes all come out of this tradition, and it predates sawmills and kiln drying entirely.

Questions people ask before booking

Do I need to bring my own tools?

Sallerton Wood says tools and materials are provided for this green woodworking course, so you should not need to bring your own. Confirm with them when you book, as kit lists change.

Is it suitable for a complete beginner?

Yes. Sallerton Wood bills this course as suiting people starting from scratch as well as those with some experience who want to develop further, so a mixed-ability group is expected.

Is £90 a fair price for this?

Most one-day woodworking courses on this site cost between £80 and £230. At £90 this one sits towards the cheaper end, out of 73 we hold a price for. Price alone will not tell you which suits you: group size and what is included matter as much.
