A half-day wood carving course with Clunie Fretton (Fretton Handley) in Camden.

What is wood carving?

Carving means cutting a shape into a block by hand, with gouges and a mallet. It is slower than turning and there is no machine doing any of the work. Beginners usually start with a relief carving, where the design is cut into a flat panel rather than in the round, because it teaches tool control without needing you to think about a shape from every angle at once.

Dates, prices and places are set by Clunie Fretton (Fretton Handley), not by us, and can change at any time. Always confirm the details with them before you travel.

Questions people ask before booking

Do I need to bring my own tools?

Clunie Fretton (Fretton Handley) does not state on their page whether tools are provided for this course. Ask them before you book, because a hand carving course can assume you bring your own.

Is £60 a fair price for this?

Most half-day woodworking courses on this site cost between £40 and £100. At £60 this one sits towards the cheaper end, out of 33 we hold a price for. Price alone will not tell you which suits you: group size and what is included matter as much.

Who do I book with?

You book directly with Clunie Fretton (Fretton Handley). Woodwork UK does not take bookings, does not add a fee, and is not paid for the link. They set the dates, the price and the number of places.
